Job Summary:
The Prepress Manager is responsible for overseeing the prepress department and managing all activities related to the preparation of files for large format digital printing. This includes supervising prepress staff, developing efficient workflows, ensuring accuracy and consistency in file setup, and collaborating closely with production, sales, and design teams to meet client expectations and production timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage a team of prepress technicians and operators
• Jump in and help with workload when required
• Review incoming files for print readiness and ensure compatibility with production specifications
• Set up and optimize workflows for preflighting, proofing, imposition, and RIP processes
• Work closely with CSR, design, and production teams to resolve file issues and clarify job requirements
• Maintain and enforce standard operating procedures and quality control measures
• Manage the scheduling and prioritization of prepress jobs to meet tight deadlines
• Ensure consistency in color management and output quality across devices
• Provide training and support to team members on software, equipment, and best practices
• Troubleshoot technical issues related to file formats, RIP settings, and print output
• Stay up to date with new technologies, software updates, and industry standards
Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in prepress or print production, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
• Strong understanding of large format printing workflows, substrates, and finishing requirements
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Onyx or Caldera RIP software, and preflighting tools (e.g., PitStop, Esko)
• Knowledge of color theory and ICC color management practices
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Familiarity with wide-format digital presses (e.g., HP Latex, EFI, Durst, etc.)
Nice to Have:
• Experience with automation tools or custom scripting (e.g., Enfocus Switch, Esko Automation Engine)
• Background in structural packaging or display production
• Exposure to MIS/ERP systems used in print production (e.g., Avanti, PrintIQ, etc.)
